Google's Christmas Gift For Web Designers

Ever wondered what parts of your site can't be viewed without scrolling? Browser Size shows you what portion of users can see a give spot on the screen. This is not screen resolution but the area available to the browser – as gathered from www.google.com users

Percentages are percentage of users who will see the areas of the website without scrolling.

For example innermost line says 99% that means for 99% the user areas under that line will be visible without horizontal or vertical scrolling.

I’ve tested for stuff.co.nz homepage, section landing and story page, you can see from below screenshots. Percentages are percentage of users who will see the areas of the website without scrolling.

How big is your homepage?

John Clegg (Zoomin, Projectx) has posted a series of tables showing the heavy and the lite New Zealand websites.

He used the excellent Firebug extension for Mozilla Firefox together with Yahoo’s YSlow, to measure and analyze homepage performance over the top 75 New Zealand websites from Rankr.

TheNew Zealand Homepage Hall of Shame includes, in order from the worst offender, TV3, Kiwiblog, Seek and Stuff among other Kiwi internet stars.

The survey shows the average homepage was 304.9kb compared to a global average of 312kb
